Conversion from Igbo to English and vice versa is possible using the dictionary.
The dictionary holds words that have been encountered during the Igbo Course at SOAS. It is thus far from extensive or definative but should prove useful to the SOAS language student.
Diacritic markings on words are ignored during the search. So a search for any of 'akwa', ákwá', 'ákwà' etc. will all yield the same results, as will searches for 'anuri' or 'añụrị'
The results show the best matches first, followed by example uses of the word. Finally more obscure results are shown where the word searched for may be part of another word eg. if 'aka' were looked for, the final section may contain an entry for 'àkàmu'.
In order to prevent the vast chunks of the dictionary being returned in resonse to searches for single letters, only 30 records in total are ever displayed for any one search. Thus if there are many entries in the main section of the results, the number of entries in subsequent sections will be limited. |
